• Positive: the characterful building. the central location. the friendly staff (but see below). the very good breakfast. the cleanliness.
• Negative: the reception was most unwelcoming. the main receptionist (a middle-aged male whose name I didn't get) apparently couldn't be bothered to look up from his work booking on the computer. throughout our attempt to book in he didn't bother to explain what he was doing(or even, whether he was dealing with our booking). eventually it became clear we had a room with a balcony, which is what we had asked for on arrival. unfriendly, un-communicative, with little English language (which the website stated the reception staff all had). beware - if you book a room with a balcony it will be noisy into the late(early) hours, from the street below. road-cleaning lorry slowly rumbling by at 02.00 hrs, couples having domestics, children playing into the late/early hours. if you want a peaceful night ask for quiet room!
